The Cleanest Woodburning Stoves

3rd Aug 2022

Clean burning (Ecodesign) stoves are becoming ever more popular, partially due to the increasing gas and electricity prices in the UK, but more commonly because of their timeless appearance and stunning flames - what's better than sitting in front of a woodburner on a cold winter evening?

This popularity couldn't have come at a better time - January 2022 marked the end of a transitional period for regulatory change for solid fuel-burning appliances – Ecodesign rules regarding wood-burning stoves emission levels and seasonal efficiency are now fully in effect.

Now, only stoves that meet the new requirements can be sold legally in the UK.

What is an Ecodesign stove?

An Ecodesign stove is a stove that meets all the new efficiency and pollution requirements.

In order to qualify as an Ecodesign Ready CE stove, the stove must have a minimum seasonal efficiency of 65%, while SIA stoves must have a minimum seasonal efficiency of 75%.

The Ecolabel rating ranges from A++ to G for Ecodesign Ready stoves, which correlates with how much energy is used for heating.

Brands leading the way in Ecodesign stoves

These three stove manafactures are (in our opinion) leading the way in Ecodesign stoves, each one with its own individual styling and characteristics to suit almost any home.

Woodwarm Stoves

All our Eco stoves exceed the requirements of the Clean Air Act which comes into force in 2022.

Whilst we continue to create stoves that are cleaner and more efficient, it is the critical issue of wood fuel that plays the biggest role in affecting air quality.

Town and Country Fires

All our stoves have an air wash to the glass, which works extremely well. Most have tertiary air at the rear of the fire box too, which burns off gases at the back of the fire that do not normally ignite, thus giving a very clean burn, causing less pollution in the atmosphere.
